About The University of Virginia's Office of Minority Procurement Programs
Our Mission: The mission of the Office of Minority Procurement Programs (OMPP) is to strive for greater economic equity in our society by encouraging, developing, and expanding business opportunities for minorities and minority-owned companies. To fulfill this mission the University has set a goal to purchase 5% of our total goods and services from minority firms. This goal does not allow for “set aside” purchases. Minority firms compete equally with majority firms and must provide the University with quality goods and services at competitive prices.
Our Services: Organize and maintain outreach programs to minority firms to facilitate their access to the University’s business, Work with University departments to inform them about opportunities to do business with minority firms, Coordinate minority procurement activities with University departments which have purchasing responsibilities, Educate majority firms about the advantages of subcontracts, partnerships, or joint ventures with minority firms, Network with other institutions and agencies to identify minority firms, provide information on OMPP, and provide education and mentoring opportunities to minority firms, Assist minority firms with business development, leadership, and financial management skills.
